December 2007
Across the Desk
by Robin Noll
It has been a busy month, December promises to be even busier with the holidays upon us. First off I want to thank EVERYONE who made our Anniversary Party a night to remember. Whitey said it was one of “top ten” events in his life. It was great meeting many of you who have been faithful readers since you can remember. It was wonderful to see Mike and Marge Staub, (they haven’t aged) Calvin and Randy Felty, who I hadn’t seen forever, and just everyone who came out on a cold and rainy night to party with us. I have to thank Jim Price for coming in from Altoona, where they had their first snowfall of the year. Thank you Jim for emceeing the event. Jim has a great announcer voice, I guess that’s why he’s in radio. Thank you to Bridgette and the entire wait staff at Gullifty’s and of course Matt and Ike for letting us invade their club for the event. The food was delicious. The Bud Light provided by Wilsbach Distributors got the party started. Whitey, Dave Greene, X-terra, Drop of Grey and Asking Andy all did a great job performing. Words cannot really express the love and joy we felt as we shared a special time with some long time friends and many new ones we met. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! Whitey signed ten autographs (he was very humbled by people asking him for his autograph). You all made us “old folks” feel very good. A party like that inspires one to keep doing, what we’re doing. It seems to be a positive force for many people out there and it’s nice to know people appreciate and enjoy the Pennsylvania Musician.
Another event that is affected by this tragedy is the Toys for Tots benefit at Shakey’s on December 8th. The line up in the ad is wrong. I had also made a mistake in naming the one band. It is not Friction but Friction Broadcast. The new line up and times are: Doors open 2pm, Knotfal at 3pm, Asking Andy at 4pm, Green Eggs at 5pm, Emily’s Toybox at 6pm, Friction Broadcast at 7pm, Psycho Bettie at 8pm, Real Be Easys at 9pm, Union X at 10pm, The Impact Band from 11pm -1:30am. Teresa and her family work hard to see that many boys and girls get gifts for Christmas. They don’t only run this event, they actually wrap toys and deliver them to various area’s. They are awesome people and if you want to be a part of what the holidays really means come and join us at Shakey’s in Hershey, Saturday, December 8th and bring some toys and money to donate. Remember the kids ages go up to 14.
Rachel Rocks, Heather and I went to see Steel at Tubby’s on the 17th. I thoroughly enjoy Steel. They simply amaze me. Dave Magaro was shredding his bass strings. He probably has to put new strings on every time he plays. He is amazing. You would think he’s playing lead guitar. They have added to their song-list and Chris is into getting the crowd participating right along with the band. It was a fun night. If you haven’t seen Steel be sure to get out and catch them live, you won’t be disappointed. Not only do they do covers but they include their originals. I have never been disappointed at any of their shows.
As usual I have to head to the printer so I must end this word of wit. It is the Christmas season so if you haven’t received the ultimate gift, Jesus Christ into your heart, I would encourage you to ask Him what it is all about and he will answer you. Maybe directly, maybe indirectly but he will answer and he will help you each and every day because he loves you that much. He’s just waiting for permission to help you out.
I don’t usually say Happy Birthdays but we have several happening this month...Happy Birthdays to: Keith Hummel, Josh Noll, Jeffrey Wolf, Mason Boob and of course Jesus!
