Across the Desk
by Robin Noll

Hey, just wanted to say I love the magazine, the article on Echoburn is fantastic.  I just wanted to let you know that after reading the article and the “Across the Desk” (loved the Fuel/Echoburn) segway.  However, you called the first drummer Jodie Abercrombie, it was Jody Abbott,  Jeff Abercrombie is the bass player.  also, in the Echoburn article it says that Joey auditioned for Fuel after Brent left the band, and that should be Brett.  Just thought I’d let you know.
                           — Thanks.  Michelle

Thank you Michelle for correcting me on those points. Appreciate it. The printing business continually keeps one humble. Last month I had a multitude of errors and upset people. Many times we rush through ads and articles just to be able to get to the printer. Especially this article. I apologize for all such errors and ask for continual forgiveness but I do appreciate the correction and letting me know of the errors.
I need to apologize to Smokin Gunnz for running the wrong picture in the Tubby ad. I have since deleted that picture. Again I was in a rush to get the ad done and thought I was doing a good thing. You gotta keep up on these things in the publishing business.
Also a sorry goes out to Interstellar Production to Tucker and Dawn for not noticing the artwork missing in their ad. It was created in one program I opened it in another and what do you know, some of the artwork was a no show. Again, if I had been paying attention.
Apologies to The Steam for trying to improve their ad in my eyes but they did not appreciate it. Just goes to show what one person likes does not always jive with another’s point of view. I can understand when you spend hours on designing your ad you don’t want it messed with. Lesson learned. (Hopefully).
I should know I just set and designed 28 ads in the last 18 hours. I’m tired so I’m sure there will be a number of mistakes in this issue as well, but there is also a lot and I mean, a lot of information. My fingers are numb from typing and my eyes are crossed and my butt is sore from sitting that long.  Oh yeah, I put a cover blip on the cover that Earl Reid was going to be at Frog Hollow Tavern, well he is going to be there but not until February 9th. But you can go ahead and make reservations and I’m sure we’ll have more details later.
There are several new ads this month. The Dutchmen in Pine Grove is now featuring bands and she has a very hot line up. Jerry Joseph is returning to Gullifty’s and also The Clarks are coming in from Pittsburgh but that is not until October 5th. That’s just a few things off the top of my head.
I was talking to Sterling Koch tonight  and he told me he is all ready to start with his new band as soon as VIH honors their dates all ready scheduled for this month. Groups of musicians  change but the musicians just get better as time goes on and they outgrow one situation to move on to the next.  When you think how important music is to our well being and how it can soothe and comfort and also how it can agitate and be offensive.
A lesson I learned early in life was to put only things in my mind that are good thoughts — movies, music, books, whatever. What goes in stays in and comes out eventually. Therefore I try to keep my mind filled with good thoughts  and sounds. It doesn’t always work because sound and sight pollution are everywhere but the majority of time I can choose and I try to.
Rachel is heading to the IMC in Philly today. She’s taking the paper to the printer, waiting for her bundles and heading east to distribute Allentown and Philly and then attend the conference. It’s her birthday weekend. HAPPY BIRTHDAY RACHEL. She will be 29. Wow. 29 years ago I was very fat, pregnant and uncomfortable. The end product was of course worth it. She was the last one to be born to our family and I asked God to give me a girl, who looked like me (the rest of the kids favored Whitey) and lo and behold I had a girl who had dark hair and a nice complexion. Little did I know that both my girls, Andrea and Rachel would become my best friends and help me in making a living. We are truly blessed.
There is never enough time to do everything I want to do or to write all that I want to write but I’m going to keep plugging away. I hope to have an interview with Dale and Gail of Dale’s Drum Shop. I also just learned that K&S Music is turning 25 this year. I remember when I turned 25 and Whitey said to me, “Gee honey, you’re a quarter of a century years old.”  I said, “Gee thanks for letting me know.”  But have to go. We will continue to bring you music news and more. We had a ‘whirlwind’ of a summer. Hopefully things will calm down.
