Are you IN or are you OUT? Every month Rachel Rocks sends out a mass email asking that of everyone she has friended in my space, all our current advertisers, and also to people who are occassional advertisers, and to those we hope will soon be advertisers.
Many of you respond right away and that is greatly appreciated. The reason we need a Deadline is to let us know who is In and who is Out so that we can plan how many pages to go. Many people don’t realize the work that goes into getting each issue together, just as we don’t know what your job involves. Hopefully in this brief space I can increase your knowledge so that if you want an ad in the Pennsylvania Musician magazine your business won’t be left out.
The number one reason we need to know by the 20th of each preceding month is so that we can figure out how many pages we need to go. X amount of money means we can go X amount of pages. Pages cost money (printer, postage, gas to deliver etc.) Another thing we have been doing the last several months, which has been helping get the paper out by the 1st of the month, is printing one section before the other. That means no last minute classifieds. The classifieds, a majority of them are free and people do like that service but if you miss the 20th, you usually have until the 23rd to get them here, but after that, sorry, they go into the next issue.
You might be thinking, daily papers come out in one day, that’s true, they have a huge staff, and budget. We have limited staff and a limited budget. We get it done, but there is a lot to do as we wear several hats. Understand, I’m not complaining. I love my job, but in order to serve everyone in a timely fashion, and to get the info that we are paid to get out to the public, we need to adhere to our deadlines. We do try to accomodate as many as possible, we hate to leave anyone out. So if you would just take a minute to send back the email. We’re IN (hopefully) or OUT so that we can plan accordingly it would help us plan better and give you all the best possible issue we can produce. You still have a few days to get us the actual information but we need to know to hold the space for you. It is true once you commit you’re obligated to follow through. You will be charged for the space reserved.
April’s issue is full of information, pictures and more reading than ever before. Coming May 3rd is a huge event at Ski Roundtop as Coilcell will be releasing their CD, “Degree of Tolerance”. It’s an all day event with several bands and activities for the kids (little and big). You can see the ad on page 10 for all the details. Coilcell is a collection of artists from various bands throughout the years. Having been influeced by bands such as Dream Theater, Fates Waring, Savatge and Shinedown plus Styx, Journey, Foreigner, Boston, Megadeth and Metallica. Coilcell has compiled quite an interesting set of original songs. They will be performing these songs at Ski Roudtop followed by a Fireworks display. It is going to be quite an event. Enjoy.
I had fun going out to hear Pub Rally for this month’s cover feature. I saw them at Ceolta’s Irish Pub in Harrisburg. What a fun night. There is never a cover charge at Ceolta’s. People wanted to dance and several people were just milling around watching the band and enjoying just watching the dancers. We are a culture that needs to socialize. It’s easy to get isolated and some people enjoy the quiet of home and being on their computer’s, Tvs, and books, whatever. But there are obviously lots and lots of people who want to be out and about socializing, meeting new people, drinking a few brews, enjoying “live” entertainment. YES! It’s great being in that enviornment. It just adds something to one’s life. I enjoy watching people. Well more next month. I’m out of room. Scour the paper, don’t miss anything. Bye...
